Why you shouldn’t call a general pest control or wildlife removal company

Bird intrusions require bird removal, not “wildlife control”

When you have bird problems, you should call a bird removal company. Sounds obvious, right? Then why do so many companies and facilities managers choose general wildlife or pest control companies to address their bird intrusions? They may have a contract or past relationships with a pest control provider, or it may be that’s what came up first in a Google search. We get it—when a bird is disrupting your operations, you need help, and fast.

However, we have heard numerous stories of pest control companies spending days, even weeks, chasing birds with no success. These are cases where Meridian captures and removes the problem bird in hours. There’s no getting around it—Meridian Bird Removal is different.

What makes Meridian different?

Meridian knows general pest and wildlife control is a valuable and necessary service. After all, we started life as Meridian Wildlife Service, capturing and removing all sorts of critters from our customers’ facilities. We eventually focused on birds because we saw a need, and also because bird removal is a very different process from general wildlife control.

For one, birds fly and are very difficult to capture. That requires very different gear and training. Both need to be flexible and agile. We can’t lay traps and wait. We can’t cordon off an area. Secondly, birds can move more freely and quickly through your building. Because of their added mobility, they can cause food safety issues. Third, a vast majority of bird species are protected under the migratory bird treaty act. Wildlife control companies may not have the knowledge to distinguish between species, and they may not be familiar with which ones are protected. Bird removal companies that deploy lethal methods cannot use them on protected species.

Meridian has studied birds and bird species extensively. We realized a specialized process and equipment system was needed. That’s how we came to invent our patented Bird-N-Free live capture system. Its quick deploying structure allows us to be agile and go where the birds are. And since it captures humanely, it works on protected species.

Different methods, different billing

Another major difference between general wildlife control and bird removal is how we address the problem. As mentioned above, general wildlife control companies operate by setting traps, checking them often, and repeating the process. Completely solving the critter problem takes a back seat to response speed.

While Meridian prides itself on response speed, our focus is on a whole solution. While you can block certain animals (say, mice) from sensitive areas, birds get around more. Meridian knows we must remove, not just control, the birds. So rather than racking up a lot of activity per incident, Meridian aims to remove problem birds quickly.

What that means is Meridian charges a flat fee for bird removal (depending on the number and type of birds). Whether it takes us 15 minutes or two hours, you pay the same.

Different people, different training

The most important difference between Meridian and general wildlife controls is that we’ve developed a process and system that is scalable and we can consistently train technicians. Whereas the experience and talent wildlife control specialists will vary by market, we have worked very hard to standardize our service levels. This allows each Bird Removal Technician (BRT) to deploy quickly to his or her area and assess the situation. They learn the different bird species and how they interact with environments. Of course, our more experienced BRTs have an edge. But Meridian’s training and system is modeled to ensure success for every customer—or you don’t pay.

Finally, because Meridian charges a flat fee for removal, we have no incentive to sell additional services. We are there to remove the bird and let you get back to business! Our service model is based not on upsells, but on our core value of Customer First. This means we prefer to provide expertise in hardening your building against more bird intrusions—even if it means fewer calls for us.
