Airport Bird Control

Birds and airports are a dangerous combination. Bird strikes are the dread of pilots, air traffic controllers, and passengers. Inside the airport, birds can damage merchandise and infrastructure. They can contaminate food. Most seriously, they undermine the trust of travelers. If an airport can’t control the rare bird inside a terminal, how do we know they’re managing the birds around the runways?

Airports are mostly secure. However, any large structure with numerous doors and entry points are vulnerable to birds:

  • Automatic entry doors
  • Baggage conveyers
  • Service and maintenance doors
  • Large hangar doors

Birds in an airport terminal can endanger health, safety, and even life. If they get inside for even a day or two, the airport runs the risk of:

  • Bird droppings on merchandise, handrails, escalators, and even passengers or staff
  • Birds eating food left in the dining areas
  • Health inspection concerns
  • Infection—common birds harbor parasites and over 60 types of diseases
  • Birds flying around seating areas and into stores alarming travelers
  • Reputation damage from poor reviews

Especially in today’s environment of heightened health awareness, complaints of birds in a public facility with food establishments can bring in health inspectors and possible shutdowns.

Birds outside the airport terminal cause other issues. The risks that accompany a lack of outdoor bird control can become serious.

  • Bird collisions with airplanes are a major hazard.  The FAA reported more than 17,000 wildlife strikes in 2019, and the number has steadily increased year after year.
  • Most flight-related accidents actually happen on the runway due to collisions with wildlife—94% of those strikes involve birds.
  • The tarmac is also at risk for bird issues. Bird roosting and nesting around the tarmac cause problems for staff. Equipment and maintenance vehicles can be damaged due to bird droppings.
  • Airport parking lots and parking garages can become a haven for birds. They cause damage to vehicles and harass travelers.

How are the birds captured?

All birds are removed with our proven live capture process. We have developed a unique method with custom-built, patented equipment to safely and effectively capture birds. When our technicians arrive on site, they first scout the area looking for the birds and the best capture locations. Once these are determined, the nets are placed, and our technicians will work with the birds using a variety of techniques. The nets are constantly monitored and birds are removed immediately from them during this process. By following our process, the technicians can safely capture all birds while on site.

How can I prevent birds from coming back after you’ve removed them?

After any of our removal services, we perform a full facility inspection. During the inspection, we look for any facility maintenance, sanitation, or operational issues that may contribute to bird problems at your facility.
