This month we’d like to focus on a topic no one likes to discuss – bird droppings.
Bird poop is gross. It’s nasty on your car. It’s disgusting on the sidewalk. And nothing ruins a park bench more. But bird droppings in your facility are more than simply stomach-turning. They can shut your business down for hours or even days.
Droppings can shut you down
These days, there’s an understandable focus on cleanliness. Businesses are working hard to sanitize surfaces and keep germs away from customers and staff, and a single errant bird can bring all these efforts to naught. Bird droppings contain a host of nasty diseases, among them E. coli and histoplasmosis, a respiratory disease caused by a fungus found in dried bird droppings. It’s no surprise, then, that their mere presence can bring in state health departments, closing businesses and exposing them to liability.

The dangers caused by bird droppings underscore the need for quick action. Sometimes, that can be difficult. In a 100,000 square foot warehouse, you may not see the problem. However, if you see birds, it’s a certainty they will leave droppings at some point. The best response, then, is to quickly remove birds from your building. The longer a bird is inside, the more risk you run from bird droppings.
What to do if you have a bird inside
So if you know you have a bird inside, do not ignore it. Don’t assume the bird will make its way out on its own. Try to flush the bird out of the building. Then call Meridian, leaving the doors open so the bird has an exit. Once we arrive, we will remove all birds from inside your building – guaranteed!
