What to Do If You Discover A Bird’s Nest

Prevention is always the best medicine when it comes to bird nest removal, but sometimes we still discover a bird’s nest on our property. There are specific steps you should take if you discover a bird’s nest at your home or business.

Why Remove a Bird’s Nest?

People sometimes underestimate the dangers of bird nests. The nests actually pose a risk to our businesses, homes, and possibly even our health.

  • Bird nests bring birds to our property. The bird droppings that naturally accompany a nest are very corrosive and can damage the structure they sit on and anything underneath the nest.
  • Debris from the nest can clog gutters and drains and lead to a fire risk if the nest is inside a building.
  • The nest itself may contain bacteria, pathogens, parasites, mites, ticks, and other pests. These dangers will remain in the nest even if the bird abandons the nest.

Leaving a nest is like giving the birds an open invitation to return to your location year after year. Bird nest removal is the best option for your business.

If you discover a birds nest:

Let’s say you find a completed nest in or on your building. You can still remove it yourself if the nest is empty and contains no eggs. Nesting season typically runs from March 20 until June 20.

Do not procrastinate the bird nest removal because it is essential you remove the nest before the birds lay eggs.

Once the nest has been removed it is important to then make the area inaccessible and unattractive.

The birds may attempt to rebuild a nest in the same location, but after enough failed attempts, the birds will go elsewhere. Remember, birds are looking for food, water, warmth, shelter, and safety from predators when they pick a location for their nest.

Please follow these steps for nuisance bird species (sparrows, starlings, and pigeons) only. Other bird species may be protected. If you are unsure of what bird species you are dealing with please call us at (855) 362-2200.
