PUERTO RICO PIGEON REMOVAL SOLUTION

Meridian Clears Elevator Shaft of Pigeons and Nests in Puerto Rico

PARTNER

Major big box store

  • The retailer’s Carolina, Puerto Rico, store occupies a two-story building. In 2017, Hurricane Maria damaged the building and destroyed an exclusion net, giving pigeons access to the elevator shaft for three years.

OBJECTIVE

The store needed pigeons and nests removed from the shaft before a routine safety inspection.

  • Meridian worked with the partner to schedule the removal as close to the inspection time as feasible.
  • The store would be required to close off the elevator during the service call.

SOLUTION

Meridian’s Puerto Rico-based Bird Removal Technician (BRT) removed all birds and nests over a 5-hour period.

  • BRT Hector set up Meridian’s patented Bird-N-Free capture system with a pigeon-strength net. He crawled into a 3-foot high space and flushed numerous birds into the net.
  • Hector then worked in the tight space to find and remove a total of five nests and seven live birds.
  • The BRT also found the gap where the pigeons entered and recommended the store patch it immediately.

RESULTS

The elevator shaft was now clear of birds and nests, ensuring the store would pass inspection.

  • The BRT also removed a number of dead birds and an inch-thick layer of droppings, both accumulated over three years.
  • The elevator inspection proceeded as scheduled. With the elevator shaft cleared of birds and nests, the store passed easily.

“The retailer’s pest inspector said, ‘I need you! Meridian is the only one who can handle this!’ After the removal, he was very happy and thankful. We do our job better when we have a great partnership.”
