PARTNER
Big box home and garden store in Redding, California
-
The store’s facility maintenance contractor, faced with constant calls to clean droppings, recommended Meridian Bird Removal. This was Meridian’s first-ever service call in California.
OBJECTIVE
Capture and remove an excessive number of pigeons
- Pigeons inside and outside the store created an emergency situation that threatened to involve inspectors from OSHA.
- Doors were locked open, allowing unrestricted bird entry.
- Birds were consuming seeds in the garden center. Meridian estimated 30 or more nests needed removing.
SOLUTION
Meridian dispatched three Technicians from three states
to manage the high-priority service call.
- Technicians Andrew, Katie, and Sarah collaborated to determine a
strategic approach. - They deployed nine nets using Meridian’s patented Bird-N-Free capture system. The size of the pigeons meant only three or four
could be captured at a time. - The store asked them to work exclusively at night.
RESULTS
Meridian’s team captured a record number of pigeons and made the store bird-free.
- Over two nights, the Technicians removed the nests and captured 135 pigeons—one of the highest number of interior and exterior birds removed to date.
- The results greatly exceeded the store manager’s expectations. Even though the store had exclusion netting, the birds damaged inventory and forced constant cleaning.

“The store was overrun with birds! This was the highest number of pigeons inside a building we have ever seen.”
