Displaced by Hurricane Debby, six ducklings and their mother hen wandered into the garden center of the superstore’s Deland, FL location
OBJECTIVE
Quickly capture a duck and reunite her with the ducklings
-
Meridian Technician William C. received the request at 2:00 p.m. and immediately drove to the location, arriving at 6:00 p.m.
-
A local wildlife rescue volunteer had scooped up the ducklings and wanted to pursue the hen into restricted areas. The store managers assured her Meridian was on its way.
-
By this point, the duck had moved deep inside the store. William knew a duck might not survive being trapped inside overnight.
SOLUTION
Technician William reinforced his nets to ensure capture of the larger bird and treated its injuries.
-
Finding the hen hiding in the light fixtures, William doubled and tripled two nets to strengthen them.
-
Meridian then coaxed the bird into the patented Bird-N-Free capture system.
-
The black-bellied whistling duck had injured its beak while flying into a beam. William applied antibiotic ointment to the wound.
RESULTS
Meridian contacted the wildlife rescue activist and reunited the mother with the ducklings.
-
William contacted the wildlife rescue activist, who was agitated at having to leave the ducks separated, and met her with the hen.
-
The brood was reunited with much joy, and the rescuer took the ducks to her sanctuary to convalesce.
