PARTNER
Distribution center of a major retail chain
- This nationwide retail chain is a new partner of Meridian’s, and this was our first service call to any of their locations. The Bethel, Pennsylvania, location had a sizable footprint: 1 million square feet.
OBJECTIVE
Eight birds had occupied the interior space for more than a year, damaging food inventory.
- Employees had tried to capture the birds unsuccessfully.
- The sparrows had been inside so long, two of them had switched from diurnal to nocturnal behavior.
SOLUTION
Three Bird Removal Technicians (BRTs) worked two 10-hour days to capture all the birds.
- The birds had become so entrenched in such a large space, it required an unusually long time to capture all the birds.
- The 50-foot high ceilings required the BRTs to deploy extensions on the capture netting.
- The BRTs had to return to capture the nocturnal birds in a separate service call.
- At no time were operations interrupted.
RESULTS
Meridian successfully captured all the birds in not only the first visit, but on a subsequent call with an unusual bird.
- A few months after the initial call, this same facility called Meridian to capture a mockingbird.
- Very difficult to catch, mockingbirds are also a protected species.
- Meridian successfully captured the mockingbird, establishing a relationship with a new partner.

“The management was thrilled. They couldn’t believe the distribution center was bird-free for the first time in a year.”
